Summary of the Book
Laurie is an English boy. His father is posted to India on work for two years, and the family moves to a hill town. Laurie makes two new friends, Anil and Kamal. Anil is the son of a local cloth merchant. Kamal, who dreams of going to college, is an orphan who sells buttons and shoelaces, after his parents passed away during partition. Both Anil and Kamal take Laurie to the world of Holi, beetle races, chaat and ghosts, while Laurie takes them to a secret pool he finds on the mountainside. The three boys play around the lake – fishing, building dams, wrestling, riding buffaloes, and taking midnight dips. And one day, they plan to go on a trek to the Pindari Glacier – a grand adventure to a place where no one from the town has ever visited. When they set out on the journey, they meet pumpkin-eating bears and are on a close lookout for the detestable snow-woman, who is known to feed children with rice, earthworms, honey and fruit. Discover their thrilling journey in the fast-paced, poignant book, The Hidden Pool.
